After 193 months off the air, Radio Free HPC is back. Dan, Shahin, and Henry return with the same arguments, the same opinions, and a slightly more irregular schedule. Also: hospital stays, liquid cooling, and why AI is just HPC in a hoodie.
193 months later (or 1,351 days, depending on how you count), Radio Free HPC is back pretty much the same, but different too. The original crew—Dan Olds, Shahin Khan, and the retired-but-somehow-still-busy Henry Newman—returns with the same arguments, the same strong opinions, and a deliberately irregular release schedule.
In this reboot episode they cover why the show returned (hint: a hospital stay involving pneumonia, sepsis, and too much time to think), why AI and quantum are really just subsets of HPC, touch on the mess that is data center power and cooling, liquid cooling realities, nuclear and geothermal options, and why enterprise is finally being forced to adopt HPC-style practices.
They also discussed the glory days of RFHPC when listenership peaked at 16, and random-number-generator based scheduling theories, and Henry’s ongoing distrust of the internet.
Same show. Slightly different cadence. Still willing to offend anyone, mostly because no sponsors have ever tried to stop them.
